BackupCheck — Offline Backup Report

BackupCheck compares an original folder with its backup and saves an HTML report showing missing files, changed contents and extra backup files. Files are processed locally with SHA-256 and are never uploaded, deleted, moved or repaired.

HOW TO USE

Extract the ZIP and open BackupCheck.exe. Select the original and backup folders, then save the report outside both folders. Review differences in your browser or print to PDF. Pause editing and sync jobs during the scan.

PREVIEW LIMITATIONS

Requires Windows desktop with .NET Framework 4.5 or later. The executable is unsigned and may be blocked by Windows or managed-device security. Do not disable security software to run it.

Only primary file contents are checked by relative path. Empty folders, permissions, timestamps, metadata, alternate data streams, disk health and restore capability are not verified. Links and cloud placeholders are skipped. Unreadable files are marked unverified. Renamed files appear as missing and extra. This is a sequential scan, not a snapshot.

TESTED SCOPE

Core engine checks and the actual desktop path-entry, compare and save-report flow were tested on the development Windows machine. Clean-machine compatibility, interactive large-drive cancellation, folder-picker interaction and large-drive performance remain unverified. Evaluate with a small copy of nonessential files first.

AI DISCLOSURE

Code and documentation were created with generative AI assistance. The application does not call AI services or external servers.
